The European Milk Board (EMB) and its member organisations welcome the revision of Directive (EU) 2019/633 on unfair trading practices (UTPs) in the agricultural and food supply chain. From the perspective of dairy producers across Europe, the current rules are an important first step, but they remain insufficient to ensure fair market conditions and viable farm incomes. 1.
The EU Commission tabled proposals on Unfair trading practices (UTP) at the end of 2024. However, they do not change the substance of the UTP Directive but refer to cooperation between Member States when it comes to cross-border unfair activities. It is, of course, important for Member State authorities to be well-placed to investigate and issue sanctions in cases of unfair trading practices.
