The European Forum for Restorative Justice (EFRJ) very much welcomes the European Commissions proposed amendments to the Victims Rights Directive (hereinafter VRD) that we consider a step forward in strengthening the rights, protection and support of victims in the EU. However, we are concerned about the missed opportunity to include a more ambitious revision of the restorative justice provisions in the VRD.
The European Forum for Restorative Justice (EFRJ) welcomes this initiative on the Revision of the EU victims’ rights acquis. The EFRJ participated to the evaluation of the Victim’s Rights Directive (VRD) by submitting a position paper on the evaluation of the implementation of the restorative justice (RJ) provisions of the VRD.
The European Forum for Restorative Justice (EFRJ) welcomes the European Commissions initiative to develop an EU Action Plan on the Protection of Children against Crime. We support the Action Plans focus on prevention, protection and support for child victims, responses to child perpetrators, and child-centred multidisciplinary cooperation.
EFRJ Contribution Restorative justice (RJ) should be recognised as an important component of a comprehensive, victim-centred approach to victims rights. Evidence shows that RJ can contribute to victims recovery, recognition, participation, empowerment and reparation, while strengthening confidence in justice systems. However, access to high-quality RJ remains uneven across Member States.
