Established in 2011, the EUDCA is the voice of the industry, with a diverse membership which includes European and international data centre operators, equipment suppliers, and a network of national trade associations.

Key to our modern digital economy, the safety and resilience of our infrastructure is essential to our daily life. Therefore, it is important to include a vision for digital infrastructure in any strategic digital vision for the EU.

The EUDCA welcomes the European Commissions Environmental Omnibus proposal as a timely and necessary step to simplify environmental legislation, reduce unnecessary administrative burden, and improve permitting efficiency while maintaining high levels of environmental protection. Digital infrastructures are essential enablers of Europes digital economy, AI ambitions, and decarbonisation objectives.

Digital infrastructure is a critical foundation of both the European economy and its digital systems. Data centres are not just the visible presence of the internet, but the visible interconnection hub where digital transactions originate.

The European Data Centre Association (EUDCA) takes note of the European Commissions initiative to address the management of water resources in Europe, particularly in light of the increasing pressures linked to water scarcity. As the representative body of the European data centre industry, EUDCA underscores the sectors commitment to sustainability and resource efficiency.

However, the proposal requires refinement to deliver on its core promise: enabling fair comparison across Europe's diverse operating environments.
