As ESWET, we represent technological suppliers for WtE plants across Europe. OBJECTIVE 2 Under the RED, WtE can provide both renewable electricity and industrial-grade heat directly to EIIs, reducing both grid dependency and emissions, while enhancing energy security.

ESWET the European Suppliers of Waste-to-Energy Technology welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the European Commissions consultation on the revision of the Climate and Environmental Delegated Acts under the EU Taxonomy framework. However, ESWET regrets that Waste-to-Energy (WtE) activities have once again been excluded from the scope of the Taxonomy.

However, while waste prevention is the most desirable goal in the long-term, waste generation is still on the rise in Europe and needs to be dealt with, including non-recyclable waste.

ESWET acknowledges the Commission’s plan to revise the Industrial Emissions Directive, in particular its ambition to contribute to circularity and the decarbonisation of industry. In that respect, ESWET expresses its support to the Commission’s efforts towards a green transition and seizes the opportunity to share its perspective.

ESWET welcomes the EC’s call for evidence on microplastics pollution and measures to reduce its impact on the environment. Microplastics pose a serious threat to the whole ecosystem, including to human health, requiring immediate action from all responsible actors.

ESWET, the European Suppliers of Waste-to-Energy Technology, welcomes the Commission's call for evidence on VAT and the circular economy as a timely contribution to the forthcoming Circular Economy Act. In ESWET's view, well-designed fiscal measures can play a decisive role in correcting the persistent price gap between primary and secondary raw materials.
