The European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) is the EUs in situ marine data service. Implemented by a large network of experts, EMODnets operational service is a trusted source of in situ marine environmental and human activities data and data products from the coast to open ocean and from European regional sea-basins to the Arctic.
The MSFD revision is a major opportunity to strengthen the EUs marine knowledge pillar and address challenges in data pipelines, standardisation and harmonisation raised in the 2025 MSFD EC evaluation. EMODnet provides a solution, as an existing, operational EU capability with well-established support to the EU MSFD and a cornerstone of EU marine knowledge (see EMODnet Vision 2035 in attachment).
