Competences in reading, mathematics, science and digital are essential prerequisites for personal development and participation in society, as are citizenship competences.

The EKD Brussels office provides advice on EU funding opportunities, including on the ESF+ in Germany. The ESF+ represents a real added value in the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and should therefore continue to be provided with sufficient financial resources in the future.

In principle, the ECS Brussels office welcomes the thematic focus and implementation of the ERDF. However, practical implementation does not fully exploit the potential that ERDF funding could have for social cohesion. In Germany, for example, Objective 4 of the Common Provisions Regulation (CPR) (a more social Europe) is currently covered by ERDF support only by the ESF+.
