What they argued
Heating and cooling account for nearly half of Europes final energy demand and remain 70% fossil-based. Persistently high energy costs and import dependency (60% of total energy, 19% of gas from Russia) threaten households, industry, and Europes energy sovereignty.
Energy efficiency is a central driver of Europes resilience, competitiveness and energy security. Since 2000, energy productivity gains have reduced primary energy consumption by around one third compared to a no-efficiency scenario. Without these gains, EU import dependency would be significantly higher (around 73% instead of 57%), increasing exposure to global price shocks.
DENEFF welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the update of the governance of the Energy Union. Strengthening energy efficiency and electrification in the post-2030 framework is essential to deliver climate neutrality, competitiveness, affordability and energy security. Energy efficiency is a proven pillar of resilience and cost reduction.
