The European Ocean Pact and the forthcoming Ocean Act represent an opportunity to strengthen the governance of Europes seas. For the North Sea - one of Europes most intensively used and economically strategic marine basins - this initiative is particularly relevant.
The North Sea Region (NSR) is a major transport hub in Europe and is crossed by three European Transport Corridors. NSR is also host to the biggest ports in Europe with dedicated military functions. Ports are also serving as hubs for the storage and distribution of renewable energy, and protection of related infrastructure.
