We support the utmost rigour in using the European Organic logo. The European logo should only be used by producers who comply with all the rules laid down in the Regulation and, in particular for important products from third countries, we consider it necessary to ensure reciprocity in the application of the rules in order to ensure fair competition in the organic market.

In the light of the above, we acknowledge that the Commission intends to finalise the revision of the Waste Framework Directive as soon as possible, through enhanced and accelerated action by the EU and the Member States to ensure the environmental sustainability of the food sector, in line with the Green Deal and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12.3 to halve global food waste by 2030.

As Coldiretti, we welcomed with interest the European Commission’s new proposal on carbon capture, which for the first time proposes a certification of carbon that is captured and stored thanks to various activities carried out by the agricultural sector. We welcome the Commission's proposed amendment under consultation, amending Council Directive 91/676/EEC as regards the use of certain fertiliser materials from livestock manure. It represents a first step towards enhancing the circular approach to manure management, with production of organic fertilisers and consequent reduction in the use of chemical fertilisers and dependence on imports of the latter.

From an initial analysis, the document does not contain any significant criticism. However, with regard to national application and the other unfair practices recognised by the various Member States when implementing the Directive, combating such practices at transnational level by using the sole instrument of requesting information may lead to a reduction in supranational law enforcement.
