CNA welcomes the European Commissions initiative for a Circular Economy Act, a decisive step toward a resource-efficient and climate-neutral Europe. MSMEs, the backbone of the EU economy, already contribute to circularity through repair, reuse, recycling, eco-design, and sustainable production, but often face complex procedures and high compliance costs.

CNA welcomes the revision of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) as an opportunity to improve their usability and ensure a more proportionate framework. At the same time, simplification should not lead to a weakening of the overall EU sustainability framework.

CNA welcomes the willingness of the European Commission to accelerate the green transition of the textile and food sectors. These sectors have an important environmental impact and are strategic for our production system.

CNA believes it is essential that the revision of the CBAM includes a mix of measures necessary to strengthen the competitiveness of Italian and European mechanical engineering companies, a strategic sector for the development of our industrial system that deserves to be protected and safeguarded for its significant contribution to growth and employment.

The MOCA legislation has a significant impact on the whole food manufacturing sector and we are one of the countries where legislation is most advanced in terms of compliance with food contact. CNA identifies some main concerns regarding the draft Regulation on the DPP Registry. The document raises concerns about the long-term availability and lifecycle consistency of DPP data, particularly when economic operators are no longer active or their verification expires. It also highlights the absence of clear technical and operational mechanisms governing backup copies and recovery procedures for DPP data.

While agreeing with the objective of harmonising at EU level the end-of-waste criteria for plastics, CNA considers it necessary to highlight significant problems that risk disproportionately affecting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, in a context of serious crisis in the market for recycled plastics.
