What they argued
The International Confederation of Paper & Board Converters (CITPA) and its member associations support the intention of the European Commissions revision of the Waste Framework Directive (WFD) to reduce waste production. This legislative update is especially critical given the environmental, economic and societal impacts of food waste.
CITPA supports the ambitions of the Commission introduced with the EU Green Deal and the present EU initiative aiming to “decrease waste generation and improve separate waste collection to yield optimal recycling results”. The paper and board industry has invested heavily over the last decades in infrastructure to ensure paper and board packaging is collected and recycled.
The paper & board converters welcome the Sustainable Products Initiative of the European Commission aiming to establish sustainability principles and leading the way to a cleaner and more competitive Europe. The sustainable products policy could be a real driver for circularity starting from resource efficiency to the products’ end-of-life. Please see more detailed feedback in the attached document.
This feedback is provided on behalf of the Packaging Ink Joint Industry Taskforce (PIJITF).
