What they argued
As an agricultural organisation, we want to draw attention to the possibilities and bottlenecks for the production of renewable energy in the countryside. In Flanders (and probably also in the rest of Europe), the agricultural sector also produces a lot of solar energy.
We welcome the Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and the Council amending Directive 2008/98/EC on waste presented on 5 July 2023 and laying down food waste reduction targets with a view to delivering on the UN SDG 12.3 and F2F Strategy commitments of halving food waste by 2030.
We agree that no target with regard to food losses in agriculture has been set: According to the Flemish food loss monitor, only 4% of the food produced by the agricultural sector goes. This even includes almost unavoidable food losses such as damaged fruit or losses as a result of preparing products for market (leek greens, onion outer skins).

Boerenbond welcomes the European Commissions initiative to simplify environmental legislation and reduce administrative burdens. Simplification is essential to ensure that environmental policies remain effective, feasible, proportionate and supported in practice, while safeguarding the competitiveness and investment capacity of European agriculture.
We thank for the opportunity that we can provide feedback on this draft act. We thank the European Commission that there is finally a legislative initiative which allows the use of RENURE as a chemical fertiliser replacement. These products are an alternative to artificial fertilisers but are not currently considered fertiliser by the European Commission.
Dear Sir/Madam, thank you for considering this proposal. Unfortunately, we note that there are still a lot of obligations that could be implemented together with this simplification. We would like to raise the bar in order to achieve administrative simplification up to the level of the individual farm. This proposal does not yet address this.
