We very much welcome measures to prevent packaging waste. However, the EU Packaging Regulation, which has been in force since 12 August 2026, is deficient in its design and poses unsolvable problems for businesses, not least due to the amended FAQs just before the date of application. The current implementing rules cannot solve these fundamental problems.

Many such uses have been illegal, and pirated sources have been used systematically.

It was founded in Leipzig in 1825 and currently has roughly 4,000 members, which include booksellers, publishers, wholesalers and other media companies.
