We support the careful use of technology in meat inspection, including remote tools and computer-based systems, where these enhance official controls and improve flexibility in low-capacity slaughterhouses and game-handling establishments. However, any amendment to Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/624 must preserve the central role, responsibility and professional judgement of the Official Veterinarian (OV).

The Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) supports the modernisation of official controls under Regulation (EU) 2019/627, including the use of remote inspection, digital tools, and increased operational flexibility. However, these changes must not weaken the effectiveness, independence, or reliability of meat inspection systems, which are fundamental to public health, animal health, and animal welfare.
