The Commission is proposing to assess the introduction of a carbon adjustment mechanism at EU borders in forms and sectors still to be defined. For maize producers at the General Association of Maize Producers (AGPM), the carbon dimension is an important issue. European consultation on renewable energy: the maize sector advocates simpler rules. As stakeholders in methanisation and biofuels, maize producers intend to put forward their requests in the European Union’s consultation on renewable energy. LAGPM points out that these outlets, which are at the heart of the bioeconomy, are a diversification that has become crucial for the economic balance of farms.

The AGPM is convinced of the role played by culturalists in the preservation of nature, and of the role they will continue to have in its restoration. Thus, French farmers, aware of the importance of preserving natural environments, have largely changed their practices and contributed in particular to the preservation of pollinators or aquatic environments.

The General Association of Maize Producers (AGPM) welcomes the European Commission’s initiative on the need for an ambitious approach to preparing the EU for climate change, particularly for agriculture. LAGPM wishes to point out that the cultivation of maize in France brings around 7 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent to the soil each year.
