Feedback on the European Commission Inception Impact Assessment for the Amendment of the EU ETS (Directive 2003/87/EC) Armateurs de France welcomes the inception impact assessment carried out by the Commission aiming at studying the impact of the extension of the EU ETS to the maritime sector.
Shipping sector has already been engaged for several years in decarbonizing its activities. Shipowners and shipyards are exploring all available solutions, investing in new industrial assets capable of using low-carbon energy and renewable energy sources (such as wind propulsion for ships), and determining the most appropriate energy and technological mix based on vessel operations.
Armateurs de France welcomes the update of the European List of ship recycling facilities and stresses the importance of ensuring that EU-flagged ships have access to sufficient, high-quality and geographically realistic recycling capacity.
