What they argued
Response ECVC welcomes the UTP Directive revision as a crucial opportunity to address structural weaknesses in the food sector and strengthen farmers' position in the value chain. The Commission's December 2025 evaluation makes one point clear: current legislation still fails to provide sufficient protection for farmers.
In principle, the AbL explicitly supports the European Commission’s ambition to reduce and avoid bureaucratic burdens for farmers. However, the Commission’s proposal again contains a massive reduction in minimum environmental standards for receiving funding (GAECs) in many respects, without compensating them by extending voluntary measures to reward environmental or animal welfare services (eco-schemes).
