Italian manufacturers strongly believe in the effectiveness of the Ecodesign Regulation 2015/1185., A revision may be beneficial, but the approach should not change, and Ecodesign should focus on identifying and defining more ambitious yet achievable limits to improve efficiency and emissions of the solid fuel Local Space Heaters (LSHs) stock.
Although the initiative to update the energy label is certainly positive we have a strong concern about the passage in (Ares(2022)465851) Chapter B. Objectives and policy options that purpose “a single energy label for the heating function of reversible air conditioners and local space heaters”.
AIEL the Italian Wood Energy Association welcomes the European Commissions initiative to simplify the legislative framework for energy-related products. Solid biofuels technologies play an important role in the decarbonisation of the heating sector and contribute to the EUs objectives on climate neutrality, energy security and circular economy.
While supporting the Commission's intention to update the existing label, as well as to remove less efficient products from the market, we oppose the merger of these two lots and strongly oppose the creation of a single classification for energy labelling of local space heaters (LSH) and air-to-air heat pumps (HP) as proposed by the Commission.
