Summary
GeneratedDirective 2007/43/EC sets minimum welfare rules for chickens kept for meat production, with transposition required by 30 June 2010. It caps stocking density at 33 kg/m2, rising to 39 kg/m2 and up to 42 kg/m2 under derogation conditions. It covers holdings of 500 or more chickens, excluding breeding stock, hatcheries, free-range and organic flocks. Member States may keep stricter national measures.
