Directive 2003/99/EC requires Member States to monitor zoonoses, zoonotic agents, and related antimicrobial resistance, and to investigate food-borne outbreaks. It applies to food chain stages from primary production through food and feed, with data reported annually to the Commission and EFSA. In force since 2003, with amendments through 2013; Member States had to apply it by 12 June 2004.
