GeneratedDirective 96/98/EC harmonizes approval of equipment placed on board EU-flagged ships, requiring conformity-assessment procedures and the mark of conformity. It covers items listed in Annex A.1, from life-saving appliances to radiocommunications gear, and applies to new and existing Community ships. Member States must ensure equipment on board ships they certify complies. The Directive is in force.
