Summary
GeneratedDirective 91/628/EEC sets welfare standards for transporting live animals within, into and out of the EU. It covers solipeds, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, rabbits, cats, dogs and other vertebrates, with exemptions for pets and journeys under 50 km. Member States had to transpose it by 1 January 1993. It requires route plans for journeys over 24 hours, staff training and official checks.
