GeneratedDirective 88/599/EEC sets minimum checking conditions for enforcing road transport social rules on driving times and tachographs. Member States must check at least 1% of drivers' working days yearly, with 15% roadside and 25% at undertaking premises. National compliance laws were due by 1 January 1989, or 1 January 1990 for Portugal. It applies to Member State enforcement authorities and hauliers.
