Update of provisions on European statistics on tourism

Please find attached Tourism Economics comments and recommendations, which call for improved cruise industry data to address its current underrepresentation in European tourism statistics and enable more accurate understanding of the sector's scale and contribution.

Regulation (EU) No 692/2011 established a common framework for the systematic development, production and dissemination of European statistics on tourism. The aim of this new initiative is to prepare it for the future. It will better respond to new user needs and better integrate new data sources and methods into the statistical production process.

Reliable, comparable and timely data are essential for evidence-based policymaking, effective destination management and a better understanding of tourisms contribution to local and regional economies.

It is nowadays clear and provable that live music shows and festivals are some of the most powerful drives for induced economy and also great attractors of tourism. Each spent on a ticket produces more than 4 of relapse on the territory. In 2025, live music producers have organized in Italy more than 40.000 shows that produced more than 11 MLN overnights.

I own a small campsite and we cannot afford advanced digital solutions to collect data about our guests. We would therefore like the threshold for collecting data on guests to be set at 100 units for campsites. Or to allow for an exemption from data collection if a camp site cannot afford/know an advanced digital solution for the registration of guests.
