The main points are: The document is positive and highlights the improvement in the status of many stocks across sea basins, including the Northeast Atlantic. This indicates that overall fishing mortality has decreased reflecting the efforts made by the EU fishing industry in the last decade.

The poor status of the Baltic Sea and some fish stocks is quite well described. Unfortunately, for the reasons given, the sharply increased influence of predators such as cormorants and hop dog are not properly taken into account and are not included in all fishing opportunities calculations.

Catalonia concentrates the bulk of EU fishing activity in the NW-Med, with a sector that comes 2nd, only after tourism, in the ranking of regional blue economy sources (https://ruralcat.gencat.cat/documents/20181/9460394/REPORT+2023+ecoblava+final_DEF.pdf/b4684e09-6774-4b85-be3e-cf6cfd2e0868).

Extract of the attached MEDAC ADVICE : - It is needed a new approach for the data collection/processing in the Mediterranean to have more detailed and disaggregated data/results on fishing activities and the fleet as a basis for more tailored management measures for each GSAs. - when fishing opportunities are settled, the related socioeconomic accompanying measures should be granted.

As a representative of Aquatic Life Institute, an NGO dedicated to aquatic animal welfare, I am pleased to provide feedback on the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). The progress towards achieving sustainable fisheries within the EU is commendable, particularly the reduction in the number of overfished stocks and the movement towards Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY).

I have the following proposal to provide a minimum base quota for herring in the western Baltic Sea for small vessels of less than 10 m (e.g. of 2 000 Kg), I was allowed to fish as a professional fisher in 2023 and 2024, i.e. 100 kg of herring per year, which is simply too little to pay for the current costs.

As a senior fisherman and master of the Cofradia of Fishermen of the Balears (illes Balears), I would like to give my opinion on this matter. I sincerely believe that the sector has made a tremendous effort from 200 days on average to 140 days. It has been seen that the 40 mm square mesh has also yielded its fruit, the majority is 42 mm for fear of sanctions.

It is essential to save the fishing sector above all, just as we have a biological parameter, MSY. It is necessary to have a parameter of social and economic sustainability. I propose to introduce the LIMITE DE RESILIENCE OF THE FISHERE SECTOR, LRSP, where the adoption of management measures may jeopardise the social and economic sustainability of the fishing fleet.
