POSITION PAPER MARCH 2017 The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) views the Recast of the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation as an opportunity for the EU to improve its approach to the nomination of new substances under the Stockholm Convention.

Cefic welcome the EU POP Recast proposal and the opportunity to provide comment. Those comments are presented in the attached files. The 2018 updated position paper based on the Recast proposal issued earlier this year, completes the position paper shared last year on the draft Recast proposal available at that time.
ASD would like to thank the European Commission for giving the opportunity to stakeholders to provide feedback on this proposal, as part of implementing the Commission's Better Regulation Agenda. ASD would like to outline the key specificities of the aerospace and defence sectors and propose improvement areas in order to enhance the functioning of the POP regulation within the various EU chemicals legislation.

ECPA supports the recast of the POPs regulation, however clarity on the process of how ECHA will be involved in the process of evaluating an potential POP candidate substance still needs to be clarified, whether one of the existing ECHA scientific committees will have oversight and whether a public consultation be agreed to enable stakeholder the opportunity to comment on any POP proposal.
