The European Platform for Occupational Hygiene (EPOH) welcomes the Commission’s proposal of establishing binding OELVs for three new substances under the CMD directive. EPOH welcomes the EU Commission’s timely and continuing review of Carcinogens and Mutagens and recommends that transparency in the process of OELVs setting will continuously be assured.
Trade unions welcome action by the European Commission today to protect over 1.1 million people from work-related cancer by putting binding exposure limits on three dangerous substances. The Commission has proposed Binding Occupational Exposure Limit Values (BOELs) on Acrylonitrile, Nickel compounds and Benzene as part of an update to its Carcinogens and Mutagens Directive (CMD).

The CII welcomes the Commission’s proposal for a revision of the Carcinogens and Mutagens Directive (CMD) and would like to express its support to the further setting of occupational exposure limit values (OELVs) for substances presenting a risk in the workplace specifically. The CII does not comment on the risk management of specific substances.

The Aromatics Producer Association (APA), a sector group of Cefic supports the commission efforts to beat cancer and in the light of this, agrees to the revision of the OEL of benzene from the current binding EU value of 1 ppm to a value of 0.2 ppm 4 years after publication of the 4th amendment to the CMD.
FuelsEurope is the voice of the European petroleum refining industry and represents the interest of 40 companies operating refineries in the EU. Members account for almost 100% of EU petroleum refining capacity; more than 75% of EU motor fuel retail sales and is an essential actor in the chemicals’ supply chain.
The Nickel Institute welcomes the Commission proposal to revise the Carcinogens and Mutagens Directive 2004/37/EC (CMD, 4th batch) and set EU binding Occupational Exposure Limit values (OELVs) for additional substances, including nickel compounds.

It is with great concern that we are following the discussions on the reduction of the benzene OEL within the framework of a Proposal for a Directive to further adapt the "Cancer Directive" (4th wave). Although foundries neither manufacture nor use benzene, our industry would be significantly affected by a significant reduction of the workplace exposure limits.
