I am 1947. Since I joined us with the idea of fusion of nuclear energy. Every year, there is a new message that it is expected to be so soon. Once again, there are technical difficulties. It is not possible to evade the impression that it is only about releasing new funds from the Member States. Even the fundamental problems are not dealt with. Technology is as problematic as conventional nuclear energy.

The Federal Association of Citizens’ Initiatives for Environmental Protection (BBU) e.V. rejects the promotion of fusion. The BBU criticises the fact that the holiday period procedure was carried out. Many citizens will not have been aware of it. As an internationally engaged environmental association, we were also not officially informed about the procedure and only happened shortly before the deadline expired.

ITER continues to be delayed and more expensive. It will therefore never be able to contribute to the urgent energy transition and climate change, should fusion ever work. Instead, the huge research funding goes to projects that can be implemented in the short term, while trying to stay as close as possible to the 1.5° objective.

Ladies and Gentlemen, there are countless reasons against the core conclusion: 1. Too expensive 2. Too late 3. All of the neutron radiation becomes radioactive. This includes all the material installed. 4. Radioactive hydrogen feedstock is also highly problematic 5. The energy balance is still for decades away from a positive energy balance.

The ITER nuclear fusion project in southern France is already a billion grave. The aim is now to postpone money so that the first electricity is delivered in 2039. Debt for the future, where much more money is needed everywhere in Europe for infrastructure, poverty reduction and alternative energy. The project must be stopped and built back immediately. .
