For centuries, humans have benefited from donations of nature, including fur skins, with respect for these animals. Humans also collect skins from other breeding animals of cattle, goats, sheep, asses, etc. Fur animals are an important part of the greenhouse gas biosequestration process, as they represent the highest level after ruminant animals, the world of plants and the microbiome of soils and waters.

Banning fur will have a huge economical impact in Greece and especially in the area of Kastoria and Voio Kozanis. fur is not coming only from mink or foxes, is also coming from sheep, cows, deer, rabbit, animals that we consume their meat as well. Natural fur is sustainable and is the only eco friendly material.

I see the ban on fur farming somewhat different. If a breeding does not comply with the EU Animal Welfare Regulation, the holding must be closed immediately. This also applies to all livestock farms, whether as meat, leather or fur breeders. The import of goods from non-European countries that do not meet the EU standard must be immediately banned.

Anima is a Danish animal rights organisation, working for over 20 years to document and address the animal welfare and sustainability issues of the fur industry, both nationally and internationally. Oikeutta eläimille strongly supports the objectives of the Fur Free Europe initiative, which calls for a ban on fur farming and the prohibition of placing farmed fur products on the EU market. We are Finlands pioneering non-profit animal rights organization, with over 30 years of active work in combating fur farming. Throughout this time, we have published various investigations into fur farms.

Anima International urges the European Commission to propose legislation to ban fur farming throughout the European Union, as well as ban the sale of products of fur origin within the Union. HUGE PUBLIC SUPPORT There is huge societal support across the political spectrum and beyond country borders for a ban on fur farming.

We support the scenario outlined in the second option; A ban after a transition period of fur farming in EU and a ban for placing fur products on the EU market. SEY Finnish animal welfare supports the Commission’s idea of banning fur farming with a transitional period as short as possible, not exceeding a few years. FOUR PAWS UK strongly support the objectives of the Fur Free Europe initiative, which calls for a ban on fur farming and a ban on placing farmed fur products on the EU market. Fur farming is inherently cruel, environmentally damaging, and poses a serious public health threat. Fur production relies on one of the most extreme forms of animal exploitation, the industrial-scale farming of wild animals.

WWF Spain strongly supports the proposed ban on fur trade in Europe, both for ethical issues and its impact on biodiversity and health. Escapes from American mink farms, an invasive species, affect endangered species such as the European mink or Iberian mink. They are also potential outbreaks of zoonoses such as COVID-19.
