Energy labelling requirements for electronic displays

CLASP welcomes the European Commissions initiative to review the ecodesign and energy labelling regulation for electronic displays, and we are thankful for the opportunity to offer feedback. We agree that the main aspects listed in the consultation document all deserve attention.

Cefic supports the Commission Services in removing any reference to chemicals in Ecodesign requirements for electronic displays, as they are better addressed under the proposed Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).

ECOS, Deutsche Umwelthilfe, IFixIt, and the Coolproducts campaign welcome the publication of the call for evidence for an impact assessment on the review of the eco-design and energy labelling requirements for electronic displays.

The European Heating Industry (EHI) would like to thank the European Commission for the opportunity to provide feedback for the Consultation on the Eco-design and Energy labelling Requirements for Electronic Displays. At EHI we work on various Ecodesign and Energy labelling regulations that include our hydronic space and water heaters and their components in the scope.

DIGITALEUROPE welcomes the opportunity to respond to the European Commission's Call for evidence and lend support to the reviewing of Ecodesign Regulation 2019/2021 and Energy labelling Regulation 2019/2013. This position paper elaborates on our perspectives and recommendations concerning the proposed review and potential revision of these regulations.

DUH welcomes the initiative to review ecodesign and energy labelling requirements for electronic displays as this has the potential to decrease electronic waste and to set a new European standard when it comes to sustainability of devices. Up to 80 % of the environmental impact of those products is determined at the design phase.

ANEC welcomes the opportunity to provide comment on the current Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Regulations for Electronic Displays in order to help improve revised Regulations for this important product group. Our position is summarised in the attached position paper, we invite al relevant stakeholders to read it.

BEUC welcomes this initiative by the European Commission to revise the current Ecodesign and energy labelling regulations, with the view of further improving their energy efficiency and boosting the circular economy. We support the objective of systematically tackling material efficiency issues such as durability, reparability and recyclability, making sure products last longer and are easier to repair.

The Citizens’ Association Elektrosmog and Health welcomes this initiative as this initiative would help deliver on the European Green Deal with the main objective of reducing consumer energy bills and improving the EU’s security of supply by reducing primary energy consumption and reducing energy imports. However, one aspect has not been identified in the proposed Directive: wireless communications.

The Italian ElectroSensitive Association (IEA) supports this initiative, which must help achieve the European Green Deal with the main objective of reducing consumers’ energy bills and improving the EU’s security of supply by reducing primary energy consumption and reducing energy imports. Current ecodesign and energy labelling legislation has reduced the energy consumption of electronic displays.

As long as the issue of Europe’s energy sovereignty is not addressed, these measures do not seem to me to be very useful (is a heat pump green if electricity is produced by coal?).
