Efficient cross-border car rentals

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, wir bedanken uns herzlich für die Möglichkeit, Feedback zur EU-Initiative geben zu können, durch die es künftig leichter werden soll, private Mietwagen in andere EU-Länder zu bringen, indem EU-Mindestvorschriften für die Zulassung, die grenzüberschreitende Nutzung und die Rückgabe von Fahrzeugen festgelegt werden.

On 23 September 2024, on behalf of UAB Transporent, one of the largest short- and long-term car rental companies in Lithuania, we want to express our gratitude to the European Commission for launching the initiative and the public debate on the use of hired cars in other EU countries.

The Latvian car rental association represents Latvia’s largest short- and long-term car rental companies and wishes to thank the European Commission on their behalf for the initiative launched and the public consultation on the use of hired cars in other EU countries (Ref. Ares(2024)4727051-01/07/2024).

Our statutory purpose is to protect and protect consumers, who, from the point of view of the present case, can be defined as users of cross-border car rental services. The current legislation serves to ensure that there are no disagreements between domestic versus multinational rent operators. As taxes on acquisition, VAT and circulation taxes are different from country to country, a competitive advantage environment for multinational companies over locations could be created.
