We welcome the European Commission’s objective of establishing a robust and comprehensible framework for the recognition of plastic recyclates from third countries. The future rules must ensure that requirements for environmental, health and quality standards along global supply chains are credible and verifiable.

A European brand owner/importer may source finished packaging through converters in Asia rather than directly from recyclers. The final economic operator may therefore have limited visibility several tiers upstream.

Non-EU recycled material should be certified according to EU accredited systems (Recyclass - Polycert Europe - GRS - ..) These systems clearly take into consideration the REACH compliancy of the material. Polycert Europe is a system which is based on controlled blending which guarantees the recycled content on product level.

I am a sole artist who has been making and selling handmade prints for over 20 years. I have sold and shipped my work to customers in many EU countries over the years, although the countries and volumes vary from year to year. EU sales were around £1,000 last year, but in some years they have been as high as £8000. For a small independent artist like me, this income is important to keeping my business viable.
Method. Every quote is verbatim from the organization’s own submission to the European Commission, trimmed to its opening passage and never summarized by a model. Where a submission was filed in another EU language we show the English text the European Commission publishes alongside it, labeled on the quote; the original is one click away at the source. Groupings use the respondent type the organization itself selected when filing. We deliberately do not label anyone “supportive” or “opposed” — you read what they wrote and draw your own conclusion.
